the Compact Wood Kilns
————
Product Overview
The Compact Wood Kiln series are highly efficient and portable wood fired pottery kilns designed and built by Minnesota based potter/kiln-builder Judah Birkeland. The ware chambers range from 7-18 cu ft of stacking space. Innovative firebox designs enable cone 10 temperatures to be achieved in as little as 5 hours. Alternatively, the kilns can be fired at a leisurely pace for a longer period of time (8-10 hrs) to achieve more robust wood fired. Each kiln is constructed of the highest quality refractories, including 2600° high alumina insulation firebrick, super duty dense firebrick, and 2300° ceramic fiber board (for backup insulation). Additionally the interior hot face of the walls and arch are coated with a refractory wash that helps protect the insulation brick from fly ash and sodium vapor, substantially increasing the lifespan of the kiln. A rebuild package is being developed and will be available for purchase in the future to replace all of the refractories inside the kiln once they are worn out, in essence making the kiln brand new again.
